KS3 science for non-scientists SL275 / RA04
Summary
For those without a science background who are starting to deliver key stage 3 science as either a class teacher or in small group support.
You will focus on the key principles needed to teach key stage 3 biology, chemistry and physics effectively and explore a range of teaching strategies and practical activities to do this.
During the course, you will be able to discuss and refine your understanding of key topics and be able to ask questions to improve your confidence and delivery of the subject.
This course will support you with Science Benchmark 3 - Effective teaching and learning in science.

Who is it for?
Teachers of other subjects who have been asked to teach science, teaching assistants and support staff of science at key stage 3.

6 hours delivered across 3 separate sessions, which are 2 hours each

By the end of the course you will be able to:
- teach key stage 3 science confidently by effectively using a range of teaching strategies to assess students' prior understanding, counter misconceptions and move learning forward
- clarify and build your own subject knowledge and understanding of core ideas from key stage 3 science
