This two day residential will develop your understanding of cybersecurity. You’ll explore the vulnerabilities when using a network and how to prevent against these.
Summary
As our reliance on the internet grows, it’s paramount that we protect ourselves from cyber-attacks. From understanding how cyber-attacks are developed, to the prevention methods; this two day residential will develop your technical understanding of cybersecurity.
During this two day residential you’ll go deep into cybersecurity; you’ll explore the different types of malware, including how their purpose and how they’re developed. You’ll have the opportunity to explore how to prevent against cyber-attacks, whilst reviewing real-life examples and exploring how they could have been overcome.
You’ll get hands on with building your own computer network, before performing ‘white-hat’ hacks to explore the vulnerabilities within your network. You’ll explore practical, unplugged activities of how to ignite interest amongst young people in your classroom.
Who is it for?
This two day residential is suitable for teachers from Key Stage 3 – 5, looking to upskill their digital skill knowledge focusing on cybersecurity.
What topics are covered?
Introduction to cybersecurity – you’ll explore what cybersecurity is, what threats are posed from using the internet and the prevention methods of how to overcome these threats.
Threats and preventions – during this session you’ll go deep into understand how threats are developed and what they aim to achieve. You’ll gain understanding of how to prevent against threats.
Exploring network vulnerabilities – during this session you’ll develop your own computer network using Raspberry Pi devices, you’ll use ‘white-hat’ hacking techniques to explore the vulnerabilities of your network.
Cybersecurity and industry – during this session you’ll hear from STEM Ambassadors working within industry, learn about the threats they’ve experienced and how they protect against cyberattacks. Your experienced Professional Development Leader will explore wider industry competitions and opportunities so you can fully support students in your classroom.

How long is this course?
This two day course will include approx. 12 hours of CPD. As this is a residential course, meals and overnight accommodation are included for participants for the duration of the course.
