Summary

Increase your confidence in teaching new or unfamiliar design and technology theory. This two day course will help you to develop practical approaches for delivering the theory content in key stage 3 and core GCSE design and technology curriculum.
This course will support the teaching of all GCSE awarding bodies and material specialisms. The majority of taught content will focus on activities that can be carried out in a non-specialist room supporting practical approaches without the need for traditional machinery.

Who is it for?

Develop your teaching of all English GCSE awarding bodies and material specialisms. The majority of taught content will focus on activities that can be carried out in a non-specialist room supporting practical approaches without the need for traditional machinery.

What topics are covered?

This two day course covers: 
  • hands-on experience of materials, developing your confidence in processes that might be outside of your traditional specialism
  • exploring how non-traditional equipment can be used in a classroom to teach key stage 3 and GCSE Design and Technology theory content, allowing for activities to be carried out in a non-specialist room
  • teaching the tricky bits e.g. levers, mechanisms, forces, stresses, electronics
  • exploring the properties and uses of a range of materials

This is a two day intensive residential course.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to: 
  • gain ideas for activities that can be used in the classroom to develop your design and technology curriculum
  • develop your confidence to deliver the key stage 3 and GCSE Design and Technology core subject content, using equipment and resources outside of your material specialism
