This two day online professional development course will provide practical ideas that you can take away and use with your pupils to help them become independent learners in science.


Summary

The ideas in this course will be linked to the research literature that underpins how best to support pupils’ to build knowledge and strengthen their memory, as well strategies they can use to help them make connections and deepen their understanding of science. Time will also be given to help plan next steps.

Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Explore evidence informed ways to help learners build memory and understanding.
  • Explain the importance of cognitive load theory and explore practical ideas which can be used to support the reduction of it.
  • Articulate the importance of scaffolding for pupils in building knowledge, and deepening understanding.
  • Explore what metacognition is and how it links to cognition and self-regulated learning.
