KS4 Data Representation

The KS4 Data Representation project is consists of 5 different sessions allowing you develop your knowledge of how data is used in computers and how we represent that data as binary using a combinations of 1s and 0s. By the end of the project you will have looked at binary numbers and how binary values are used to represent different types of media.


Each session in the project has its own folder with all the files and worksheets that you need to complete it.

You need to work through each session in order to complete the project. Each session has a set of instructions for you to follow with guidance on the different documents you need and what you will have to complete.

Session 6 - Error Detection and Correction

The purpose of session 6 is to introduce you to how computers detect errors in data and where the error occurs. It will introduce you to the idea of parity bits and parity check to determine if the data has been corrupted. This session requires the use of a pack of cards or cards with a colour on one side.
