Practical Action is a development charity which uses simple technology to fight poverty. The learning resources in this collection look at how issues such as climate change and the need for renewable energy can be tackled. The resources contain background information, teachers' packs, classroom activities, stimulus...

Teaching resources to support teaching of physics within the UK science curricula. Set within a global context resources draw on Practical Action’s’ projects in the developing world.  Suitable for ages 7-16.

Produced by LSIS, this interactive resource aims to support classroom practitioners in improving the quality of learning in practical science sessions. It is not a set of suggested practical activities to use in the classroom. Instead, it provides a framework for clarifying and achieving learning outcomes through...

Produced by the Nuffield Foundation in partnership with the Society of Biology, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Institute of physics, these resources aim to support science classroom practitioners at secondary level. For the g-forces activity pupils will be able to discuss how astronauts use forces to simulate the effect of launch and landing on their bodies, when preparing to go into space. The pupils look at the forces on a ball at the end of a piece of elastic and discuss the forces on an Astronaut in a centrifuge. For the...

These diagnostic questions and response activities (contained in the zip file) support students in being able to:

  • Identify factors that can increase the pressure of a fluid.
  • Explain why the pressure of a fluid is a scalar quantity that is equal in all directions.
  • Explain the...

This activity sheet takes students through concepts and calculations linked to pressure in a fluid. It could be used as revision at the end of the topic. The worksheet also  introduces a company called Tyne Subsea who use hyperbaric chambers to pressure-test products which will be used underwater.

Off-shore wind farms are used to generate electricity. Underwater cables connect the wind turbines to the national grid back on land. These cables are laid using underwater machines.  This activity sheet builds on students' knowledge of pressure in a liquid in the context of working underwater.

These diagnostic questions and response activities (contained in the zip file) support students in being able to:

  • Describe the movement of particles in fluids on either side of a boundary.
  • Explain phenomena that are caused by differences in fluid pressure, on either side of a boundary...

This booklet, produced by Dr. Lucie Green, from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory, and funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), contains four simple activities to enrich the teaching of Solar system science and beyond. The activities are: Keeping Safe in the Sun – learning about UV and sun...

Teachers TV was originally a television channel which aimed to provide professional development support for teachers, school leaders, support staff and governors. Many of the programmes were filmed inside real classrooms, with teachers sharing good practice and ideas for lessons. The videos in this collection are a...

This resource contains a number of ideas for both teaching about space and for using space as a context for learning in other subject areas.

They are:

• Poems - using different types of poems in science and some space poetry words.

• Songs and music - lists of songs concerning space and...
